01 — Challenge

Room for misinterpretation

From the beginning, No Limit Ships has prioritised streamlining its design and production process. Standard 2D drawings left a lot of room for misinterpretation — and the extra cost of the resulting corrections always came down to the shipyard.

02 — Approach

From cabinetmaker to 3D model

Tobias has been involved in the design and production of No Limit’s interiors since build 1 — first as a purely ‘analogue’ cabinetmaker, and from build 6 increasingly digital. Today the 3D model is a fixed part of the yard’s workflow.

Everyone understands a 3D model, especially with materials and light added. That makes an exceptional visualisation service for the client possible — and it supports an efficient level of production.

03 — The work

How far can CNC go?

The interior of build 9 was produced entirely with CNC — a deliberate test of how far CNC can go. The outcome: a healthy mix of CNC and traditional handwork is the most efficient approach for custom-built yachts like the No Limits.

2D drawings generated from the 3D model offer the same precision as traditional linework, but are far more meaningful and easier to read. Tobias takes care of all interior prints at No Limit — for the client, the yard and the workshop floor.

In his words

“It was a test. How far you can go with CNC.”

04 — Outcome

The model as the main medium

Using the 3D model as the main communication medium significantly improves quality and client satisfaction. No Limit became one of the most high-tech shipyards in the Netherlands — and played an important role in Tobias’s own development from cabinetmaker to 3D specialist.
